There is quite a bit of both kinetic energy (KE) and gravitational potential energy (GPE) in the world. The real question is which is there more of? I believe that there is more KE (physical energy of something that is moving) than GPE (something that has the potential to turn into physical energy of motion from either an elevated position or that is being held up) for numerous reasons. Some examples of KE are when you are playing a sport such as soccer you are kicking the ball, which is using kinetic energy. Also, animals are constantly moving around. KE is created when organs in your body are functioning like when your heart is pumping blood or your diaphragm is contracting. Gravitational potential energy is exemplified when a picture frame is hanging on a wall, or when a book is picked up. A light that is hung from the ceiling has GPE too. In my opinion, there is more kinetic energy because of the fact that people are almost always producing KE by moving some part of their body and aren’t producing GPE by lifting something or keeping objects off the ground against gravity. Because of this, I personally think that the amount of kinetic energy overrules the amount of gravitational potential energy.
